A leading media outfit has organised a cricket conclave which is bringing together all the cricket World Cup-winning captains till date along with some other big names from the world of cricket, who have made significant impacts in the mega tournament over the years. Here’s a compilation of some interesting observation made by the legends.

Yuvraj, Sehwag can’t make it to World Cup, says Sourav Ganguly: The former India skipper believes that Indian legends Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag cannot make it to the team for the World Cup since they aren’t in the scheme of things at present. Yuvraj and Sehwag played pivotal roles in India’s victorious 2011-World Cup winning campaign, but according to Ganguly, MS Dhoni has a settled team, and thus will not be keen to make changes so near to the World Cup. Ganguly, however, did praise both Yuvraj and Sehwag calling them genuine match-winners while adding that age has caught up with them. Ganguly also heaped praise on Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina, terming them as being crucial to India’s chances the World Cup.

The former India skipper also added that India have a realistic chance of doing well at the World Cup to be held in Australia and New Zealand in February next year since they have a strong ODI side. On another note, Ganguly admitted that taking his shirt off at Lord’s following the historic victory in the 2002 Natwest series final was a mistake. Ganguly said that it was his way of relieving the pressure, but in hindsight he would have done otherwise. Ganguly also expressed confidence that, unlike in 2003, when India lost to Australia in the final Johannesburg, the current Indian team is well-equipped to handle tough situations, and will not buckle under pressure.

Pakistan will struggle, says Aamir Sohail: Former Pakistan skipper, who was part of the team’s 1992 World Cup win, doubted Pakistan’s chances at next year’s World Cup. According to Sohail, Pakistan is not performing well at present, as a result of which they lack the confidence. He also added that since they do not have back-up players, a lot of dumped stars are earning easy recalls to the side.

India will struggle Down Under, says Ricky Ponting: According to Punter, India will struggle to get Australia out twice during the four-match Test series, which is set to get underway in December this year. Ponting feels that India’s attitude while playing Tests away from home is not right, when responding to a question on whether the colour of the ball makes a difference.

Fit Ishant will be key to India’s success, says Border: Former Aussie skipper and 1987 World Cup-winning captain Allan Border made an interesting observation when he mentioned Ishant Sharma as key to India’s chances at the World Cup. According to Border, Sharma is a good bowler, and with his pace and height, can trouble batsmen.

Misbah should lead, says Inzi: According toInzamam-ul-Haq, Pakistan should be led by Misbah-ul-Haq for continuity sake, since he has been captain for so long, and has also delivered results. With the World Cup so close, a chance in leadership will disrupt the team’s chances, opined Inzamam, who captained Pakistan during the controversial 2007 World Cup.
